Clutton FRED

This is a site for builders, owners and fans of Eric Clutton's Flying Runabout Experimental Design, a classic homebuilt airplane better known as FRED. These pages were created in consultation with Eric and are maintained by homebuilt aircraft enthusiast and occasional microlight pilot Matthew Long.

  • You know you’re getting old…

…when you become a museum exhibit!

Mike Smith, curator at the Newark Air Museum in Nottinghamshire, England recently sent some additional photos of FRED G-BJAD.  You can find them all in this Newark Air Museum photo set on the Clutton FRED Flickr pages.  According to Mike, they are “still waiting for the builder to fabric the wings.”  Personally, I kind of like the wings left uncovered in the museum to show how those wings are made.  But then if it were me I’d have the ropes off and the kids sitting in the cockpit playing “FRED Baron.”  ;-)  Thanks again, Mike!

Now to see if anyone is paying attention….  Can you identify the odd contraption in front of FRED?
